Eleanore Claire Santos

Eleanore Claire Gervais Santos, of Middletown, died at Forest Farm Health Care Center on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, three days before her 96th birthday. She was the wife of the late Joseph P. Santos.Eleanore was born in Pawtucket, RI, on September 20, 1918, the daughter of Arthur C. Gervais/Jarvis and Clara Brecette Gervais/Jarvis.As a young woman Eleanore was employed in domestic service for several families in Providence and Barrington. During World War II she worked at McCleod's Optical Company and the International Braid Company in Providence. Following their marriage in 1945, Eleanore and her husband lived in Providence before moving in 1948 to Newport, where they lived for the next 30 years before moving to Middletown.Eleanore had a number of hobbies and interest. She collected miniatures, and her collection was once featured in a Sunday Providence Journal article. She also enjoyed reading, baking and especially needlework and cutwork embroidery.Mrs. Santos is survived by her daughter, Gertrude (Trudy) Santos, of Middletown. She was the elder sister of the late Mildred G. Gervais.Calling hours will be held Friday, September 19, 2014 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, Her funeral will be held Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 9:00am from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.
