Hazel B. Gaines

Hazel Blanche (Greene) Gaines, 91, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Grand Islander Health Care Center of Middletown, RI. Born in Newport, Hazel was the daughter of the late Eleanor (King) Greene and Harold Greene. She is survived by her family, Robert B. Gaines Jr and Bruce Wayne Gaines, Douglas M. Bernard and Tamara A (Bernard) Sanchez, Malik, Martin, and Jacqueline Hazel Brown-Gaines and great grandchildren Carlos James and Teresa Judy Sanchez, and Theodore and Vivien Bernard.She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Gaines Sr., her children Judy Bernard, Cheryl Williamson, and Brett Scott Gaines.Hazel was a lifelong parishioner of Emmanuel Church and enjoyed an active social life with her Red Hat Ladies and hosting elaborate tea parties.Calling hours will be held Friday, January 19, 2018 from 4:00-7:00pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Her funeral rite will occur on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:00am in Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn Street, Newport.
