Portsmouth, RI - Hilda (Lima) Trezvant, 98, of Portsmouth, formerly of Newport, died Sunday, October 20, 2013 surrounded by family and loved ones. She was married to the late Alphonso Trezvant. Born in Newport, RI on Dec. 30, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Henry Lima and Helen "Nelly" (Hurley) Lima. She was the last surviving sibling of eight children. Her sisters, Ester and Mary, and her brothers, John, Henry, Anthony, Manuel and David all precede her in death. Hilda was the grand daughter of Armstead Hurley, one of the first minority businessman in Newport, RI in the late 1800's and early 1900's. she was the wife of the late Alphonso Trezvant, who ran a private limousine service. Hilda had a large and loving family to share her life, her daughter Anita Trezvant Lopes and her husband Miguel, her sons, Luis, Miguel and his wife Debra, Manuel (deceased), William and his wife Janice, seven grand children and their spouses: Andrea Corser and husband Jason, Kevin Lopes and his wife Nicole, Nicole Trezvant, William Trezvant Jr., Steven Trezvant, Georgette Trezvant, Jeanine Madrid and husband George and two great grandchildren, Jaxon Corser and Jules Madrid. She was especially close to her nieces, nephews and their children, Maria Wosencroft (deceased), Teresa Wosencroft and her daughters Tisha and Autumn, Christopher Wosencroft, wife Amy and their children Grant and Stella. Hilda was a graduate of Rogers High School in Newport, RI and was an accomplished seamstress, and taught her daughter how to sew. Anita is now an accomplished artist and owner of Hope Gallery in Bristol, RI. Hilda worked at Del Nero's Cleaners for over 50 years, retiring just last year at the age of 97. She loved the social aspects of the job and made many friends over the years. Hilda was ageless and passionate about life. She loved music, dance and watching basketball and golf with her son-in-law, Miguel Lopes. She loved fashion, the color purple and you would always see her in one of her many beautiful hats. Her calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 from 4-7 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway Newport. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 9:00 am in the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Joseph's Church Broadway and Mann Ave. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Lane in Middletown.
