Middletown, - Jean V. Meys, 84, of Middletown, died Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Grand Islander Health Care Center Middletown, RI. She was the wife of CDR Charles P. Meys, USN Ret. Of Middletown, RI. Born in Gladstone, NJ on January 3, 1929, she was the daughter of the late James W. and Catherine E. (Pitman) Conroy. Jean grew up in Somerset County, New Jersey. She attended schools in Chester, Bedminster and Bernardsville. Jean and Charles married on May 29, 1949. As a Navy wife, she and her family moved often, beginning in Newport in 1950 thru eleven other duty stations. For the last 34 years, they lived in Middletown RI. For 16 years, she was the owner of the Antique Lady antique store on East Main Road in Portsmouth. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons Michael Meys (Marina Hincapie) of Framingham, MA, Charles Gregory Meys (Nancy Sommer) of Brooklyn, NY, Dennis F. Meys (Teri) of El Paso, TX, and one daughter Patricia Jean Meys of Menlo Park, CA. She also leaves 5 grandchildren, Jessica, Stephanie, Abigail, Bethany, and Nathaniel, 7 great grandchildren, and two sisters Maureen Mannion of Fall Hills, NJ, and JoAnn Potts of Bedminster, NJ.She was preceded in death by her brother James Conroy and sister Carolyn A. Bird. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 27 from 4:00-6:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.
