Joan C. Reed, 76, of Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Taylor Road, and Ruggles Avenue, Newport, died on Friday, October 26, 2012 after a long battle with cancer. She is the wife of Richard Durot of Portsmouth, and the late William H. Reed.Born on January 19, 1936 in Fall River, MA, she was the daughter of the late John and Rose Ella (Marshall) Markland. Joan graduated from Southeastern Mass. Univ. and began her career as the fashion illustrator for the Cherry and Webb stores. Her career continued with her own advertising company. She was also a designer for Gerber Baby and Dr. Denton baby bibs. In 1989, Joan founded Krissie Products, Inc. which manufactures bibs for adults. Her hard work and dedication was recognized when she was invited on the Ellen DeGeneres Show where she featured her product, the "BigBib". Joan was a member of the Quequechan Club in Fall River, former officer of the Tansey School PTO, past president of the Holy Name Women's Guild, member of the Fall River Art Association, the Brandeis University Women's Association and the Advertising Club of New England. She was a proud contributor to the Boston Symphony and the U.S Naval War College Foundation, and an active member of the Presidential Inner Circle Republican Organization. Besides her husband Richard of 22 years, she is survived by her sons, John Reed of Newport, RI, William Reed of Portsmouth, RI, her daughter Christine Reed of Riverside, RI, her sister Mary Falvey of Warwick, RI and her five grandchildren, Emma, Billy, Austin, Logan and Ryan Reed. Calling hours will be held on, Thursday, November 1, 2012, from 4:00-8:00pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. Her funeral will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012, at 9:00am from the Connors Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00am, in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.
