Mary Magdaline "Bunny" (Goodhe Seliga

Middletown, RI - Mary Magdaline "Bunny" Seliga, 85, of Middletown, RI, formerly of 1866 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, died Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Newport Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Joseph M. Seliga. Born in Washington, DC on December 9, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Csicsay) Goodheart of Newport.Mrs. Seliga was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church and member of the church Womens Guild, she was also a member of the Newport Hospital School of Nursing Alumni, and a graduate of the Newport Hospital School of Nursing class of 1948.Mary was best known as "Bunny" to most. In a career that spanned almost 4 decades, "Bunny" was an operating room nurse at Newport Hospital went on to work as the school nurse at Elmhurst in Portsmouth, then the Aquidneck Medical Center in Newport and concluded her professional career at Edgehill Newport.Her family and friends describe her as a person who could "brighten up a room with her warmth and it was infectious" "She was always there with a warm smile, a receptive ear and a nice word." Therein lies the basis of her care giving, her true calling her legacy. "Bunny" touched the lives of innumerable souls and will be very much missed! She is survived by her sons Joseph M. Seliga Jr. of Chesapeake Beach, MD, John M. Seliga of Newport, RI, and James V. Johnson of New York City, NY, her daughters, Susan Seliga of Pawtucket, RI, and Kathleen Brown of Chesapeake Beach, MD, eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. At the request of her family, calling hours are omitted. Her funeral will be held on, Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 10AM at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth and will be followed by a private family burial In lieu of flowers, it was Bunny's wish that Donations in her memory may be made to the John Clarke Retirement Center, Patient Account Fund, 600 Valley Road, Middletown, RI 02842.or to the Grand Islander Health Care Center Activities Fund, 333 Green End Avenue, Middletown, RI 02842.
