Pearl O. Currant

Pearl O. (Openshaw) Currant, age 87, of Portsmouth died Monday, December 17, 2012 at Village House Nursing Home of Newport, RI. Pearl was born March 27, 1925 in Lonsdale, RI, the daughter of the late John and Pearl (Gerstenlaur) Openshaw. She was married to Roger L.Currant. Pearl worked as a bookkeeper at the former Newport Savings Loan and Island Trust now known as NewportFed. Previously she was at the Fall River National Bank; in total she worked in the banking industry for over 25 years. She was a longtime member of the Portsmouth UMC, and loved to sing in the Choir. Pearl enjoyed gardening, watching her Soap Operas, but most of all she loved the time spent helping to raise her grandchildren.She is survived by two daughters: Fran Blaess and her husband John, and Dale Blaess and her husband James, both of Portsmouth, RI; three sisters: Dorothy Johnson of Harwich, MA, Gloria Town of Sarasota, FL, Miriam Wood of Williamsburg, VA; She also has six grandchildren.; Timothy J. Blaess of Cleveland, OH; John A. Blaess and his wife Scarlett of Augusta, GA; Lauren Blaess of Newport, RI; Michael J. Blaess of Honolulu, HI; B. Roger Blaess of Portsmouth, RI; Ashley A. Blaess of Portsmouth, RI, as well as her cat Sassy. She also leaves 8 Nephews and 1 Niece and their children.She is predeceased by her husband Roger L. Currant, and her sister Louise Chase.Calling hours will be Thursday, December 20 from 4:00-7:00pm at Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.The funeral will be held 2:00 pm on Friday, December 21 at Portsmouth United Methodist Church, 2732 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.
