Regina M. Parker

Regina Marguerite (Golden) Parker, of 3421 Ardendale Lane, Sacramento, CA, formerly of 15 Appleby Street, Newport, RI, died on January 30, 2015 at Gramercy Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Sacramento, Ca. She was the wife of the late George Winston Parker. Born in Newport, RI on July 15, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Aloysius Golden and Ida (Hurley) Golden. Mrs. Parker was a social worker for the State of Rhode Island for 30 years, retiring in July of 1985, she also worked as a teacher in the Philadelphia School System. Regina was a member of Community Baptist Church, the Senior Choir at the Community Baptist Church, and served as Church Deacon. She was also a member of the Queen Esther Chapter #2 Order of Eastern Star and the Newport Chapter NAACP. She served for over 20 years on the Board of Directors for the Visiting Nurse Sevice. She also served on the Newport Preservation Society. She volunteered her time as a board member of the Edward King House and on the Board of Directors for New Visions of Newport County, the Newport City Housing Authority and the Newport Public Library. She Also volunteered with the Newport County Literacy Program. Regina was an avid gardener and loved to travel. She is survived her sister Sara Kinsey, her sister-in-law Laura Parker, as well as Kristine Wade, James L. Golden, Donald Kinsey, and Paul Golden, and many more nieces, nephews, grand nieces and and grand nephews. She was the sister of the late William Golden, Paul L. Golden, Aloysius L. Golden, Mildred C. Rhem, Catherine E. Ray, and Olga Jones. The wake will be held from 6:00-8:00pm on Monday, February, 9th at Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Blvd, Newport. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at 11:00am in the Commun ity Baptist Church followed by a burial in Newport Memorial Park.
