Roselind T. Ferris

Roselind T. (Benevides) Ferris, 91, of Newport entered into her spiritual life on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at her son's home. Born June 20, 1923 in Newport, RI, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria S. (Rodericks) Benevides. She was the wife of the late Manuel F. Ferris Sr.She spent most of her life at home as a devoted wife and mother. She spent many years of her life helping immigrants from Portugal with paperwork and settlement issues as they integrated themselves in the Newport Community. Rose, for a time worked as an aide during WWII at the Fort Adams military hospital. She also sewed bathrobes for the servicemen at that facility. She worked as the head of cosmetics at the Newport Woolworths 5 10 Store, at Terrys Clothing Stores in sales, and as a domestic help for Mrs. Oatsie Charles on Ledge Road in Newport (a job and employer whom she held very dear) until her retirement. Rose was a communicant of St. Marys Church in Newport. She and her husband babysat two days per week for one of her great granddaughters well into their eighties. She loved nothing more than her family, in particular her grandchildren and great grandchildren.She is survived by her son Manuel Francis Ferris Jr. and his wife Gena (DeSantis) Ferris of Middletown, RI, her grandchildren, Dena (Ferris) King and her husband Joshua King and Bryan Ferris and his wife Colleen (Chesson) Ferris, and her great grandchildren, Lily Rose King, Delaney Marie King , Maya Jade Ferris, and Tenley Marie Ferris. She was the sister of the late Manuel Benevides Jr., Mary Benevides, Bellmira "Bella" Worrall, and John Benevides. Calling hours will be held on, Sunday, March 29, 2015, from 4:00-7:00pm, in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Her funeral will be held on Monday, March 30, 2015, at 8:00am, from the Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport, RI. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gentiva Hospice Foundation, 3350 Riverwood Parkway, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30339.
