Shirley T. Dunn

Shirley T.(Mooney) Dunn, , of Middletown died Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Heatherwood Nursing Center in Newport, RI. Shirley was born February 8, 1926 in Providence, RI. She is the daughter of the late Laurence and Mary P. (Frost) Mooney. Shirley, "Mama Shirl", lived on her beloved Aquidneck Island for most of her life. She attended the Newport School of Nursing, and earned her RN. She joined the Peace Corps in 1983 at the age of 57. She served in the Fiji Islands, teaching nursing to the natives. Shirley loved antiques and photography. She cherished her friendships and adored her children.She leaves behind five children Pady (Patricia) Dunn of Vancouver, Canada, Kerry and his wife Diane of Kumu of New Zealand, Jamie Dunn and his wife Leslie, of Warren, RI, Mary (Dunn) Chase and her husband Brian of Tamworth, NH, and Alicia Dunn of San Pedro, CA. She is also survived by one sister, Patricia of Ocala, FL, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Pauline Quinlan of New York and Laurence Dunn of Cape Cod, MA, and her former husband Dr. James R. Dunn.She will be missed by the people whose lives she touched.A funeral service will be held 9:00am on Monday May 25, 2015 at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
