Sheila Cory

Newport, - Sheila Cory, 67, of Newport, died Saturday, June 15, 2013 at home in Newport. Born in Newport, RI on July 7, 1945, she was the daughter of the late John A Cory and the late Cecelia(McDonald) Cory. Sheila was a graduate of Middletown High School in Middletown. After graduating from high school, Sheila attended Salve Regina University in Newport. After college she went to work for Household Finance as a Finance Manager and trouble shooter. She worked at many locations throughout New England and was often sent to other office locations that were experiencing difficulties, to solve the problems. In recent years, she volunteered her services at the Newport County Mental Health Center, serving as an officer on the Board of Directors. She wrote many grant proposals for the Center to try and secure Federal Grant Funds for the many products and services that they provide for the community. She loved to bake and loved painting; she was also an accomplished writer. She is survived by her sister, Maurya Cory of Tallahassee, FLA and her brothers, Jack Cory and his wife Keyna of Tallahassee, FLA, and Michael Cory and his wife Lynn Thurston, of Portsmouth, RI. Calling hours will be held on Saturday June 22, 2013 from 4-6pm in the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway Newport. A prayer service will be held immediately following the calling hours. Burial will be private.
