Muriel L. Lyon

Portsmouth, RI - Muriel L. Lyon, 90, of 86 Belmont Drive, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Stoneham, MA, died Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown, RI surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Karl H. Lyon, Sr.Born in Somerville, MA on November 17, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Frank Fritz and Edith Johnson Lindstrom of Belmont, MA.Muriel was a graduate of Somerville High School. She then graduated from Tufts University in 1940. She attended Chandler Secretarial School and Boston University Law School, where she met her husband, Karl. They married in 1948. Muriel spent the majority of her career working with her husband in their Somerville law office, primarily as a title examiner. She was a former member of the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church in MA and was a recent member of the United Congregational Church in Middletown. She was an avid bridge player, Boston Red Sox fan and cat lover.She is survived by her son Karl Lyon and wife Greer of Portsmouth, and three grandchildren Lisa Lyon of Portland, OR, Michelle Sullivan of Middletown, RI, and Gregory Lyon of Framingham, MA, seven great grandchildren and three nephews, Richard, Peter and Robert Lindstrom. She was preceded in death by her sister Barbara Lindstrom Allen and her brother Kenneth Lindstrom. Calling hours will be held Sunday, July 12 from 2:00-4:00 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a Memorial Service at 4:00 pm in the funeral home.
