Newport, RI - Myron Mike Emanuel, 89, of 8 Whitfield Place, Newport, RI, also of Manhattan, NY, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Maud M. Emanuel for 62 years.Born in Brooklyn, NY on Oct. 25, 1920, he was the son of the late Levy A. and Anna Ullman Emanuel.Mike, as he was known to friends and family, was a very talented writer, raconteur and communicator. After graduating from New York University, he began his career as a Washington correspondent for Life Magazine in 1941, working with the Roosevelt administration, then moving on to become the Editor of the Army/Navy Sections. Mike then edited several other magazines, including Science Illustrated and Esquire. He then shifted to Employee Communications, eventually becoming Manager of Employee Communications at DuPont. After retiring from DuPont, he worked with TPFC, a large global consulting firm, and ultimately formed his own consulting company, Myron Emanuel/Communications, Inc. Mr. Emanuel helped to found the International Association of Business Communicators, later winning the IABCs highest honor, the Fellow Award. He was also a founding member of the Business Roundtable. He authored two books: Faces of Freedom and Handbook of Human Resources Communications. Throughout his life he was dedicated to civil rights and liberal causes, and was an active member of the ACLU. He was also a mentor to innumerable young and aspiring professionals. Above all, he was a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin, and a true friend to all who knew him.He is survived by his wife Maud M. Emanuel of Newport and New York, NY, and four daughters: Christina Ann Emanuel of Los Angeles, CA, Robin E. Duhamel of Newark, DE, Anna Lee Chatty of Newport, RI, and Heather Emanuel of Smartville, NY; one brother: Abraham G. Emanuel of Wilmington, DE, and four grandchildren: Jesse Chatty of Newport, RI, Jan M. Fox of Ecuador, Kristy L. Duhamel of New Orleans, LA, and Kiffen Ratkevich of Newport, RI, as well as several nieces and nephews.
