Portsmouth, - Nancy Alice Cutts, 53, of 34 Ladeira Avenue Portsmouth, artist, died Monday, March 3, 2003 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI after a battle with cancer.She was the wife of the late William Donald Cutts Jr. and longtime loving partner of Gardiner B. Reynolds III. Born in Cambridge, MA on October 25, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Robert J. and Laura M. Shine Roth.Nancy spent her childhood in Watertown, MA then lived in various Connecticut and Massachusetts cities before settling with her late husband in Rehoboth, MA. She moved to Portsmouth, RI in 1994.Ms. Cutts received her BA in Biology from Regis College in 1971 and attended graduate school at Mt. Holyoke College from 1971 to 1973, later completing her MA in Biology in 1982 while working at BU Medical School. For many years she was an Electron Microscopist at several Boston area hospitals and from 1984-1988 she worked in the EM Diagnostic Lab of the Pathology Department at Rhode Island Hospital. After her husbands untimely death in 1988, she left the medical field and worked as a graphic artist for Otis Dyer Surveying in Rehoboth, MA. More recently, Ms. Cutts had pursued her interest in watercolor and pastel art and was best known for her landscapes. She was an artist member of the Wickford Art Association and the Newport Artist Guild and had exhibited her work in several local galleries and numerous shows. She is survived by her longtime loving partner Gardiner B. Reynolds III of Portsmouth, RI, and his two children Gardiner B. Reynolds IV and Michaela S. Reynolds, four brothers Richard C. Roth of South Deerfield, MA, David J. Roth of Hollis, NH, John B. Roth of Burlington, MA, and Paul F. Roth of Burlington, MA, three sisters Rosemary Bawn of Stow, MA, Joanne Roth of Somerville, MA, and Regina Johnson of Woburn, MA, three step children Suzanne Cutts of San Francisco, CA, Robert Cutts and Sharon Metras both of Pepperell, MA, many nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2003, with visitation starting at 11:00AM, followed by a service at 1:00 PM in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.
