Nancy Carney

Portsmouth, RI - Nancy Swist Carney, 73, of 51 Middle Road, Anthony House, Portsmouth, RI, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Grand Islander Health Care Center in Middletown, RI. Born in Fall River, MA on August 19, 1936, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Doris Pickering Swist.Mrs. Carney had worked as a switch board operator for over eight years at the Answering Service of Newport. She had also worked as a switchboard operator for eleven years at Newport Hospital, retiring in 2001. She is survived by her children, James A. Carney of Marlborough, CT and Colleen A. Carney Karpovitz and son-in-law Thomas C. Karpovitz of Middletown, RI, her brother, John P Swist and sister-in-law Lee of Melbourne, FL, her sisters, Frances E. Frank of Fall River, MA, Cynthia J. Medeiros of Tiverton, RI, and Doris G. Thomas of Williamsburg, VA, and her two granddaughters, Shannon Lynn Karpovitz and Katrina Marie Karpovitz. She was the sister of the late Robert D. Swist, William F. Swist, Jr. and James H. Swist.Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 11 am in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.Burial will be private.Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 16, 2010 from 4-8 pm in the funeral home.
