Nancy Marie Harmon

Portsmouth, RI - Nancy Marie Parsonage Harmon, 72, of Portsmouth, RI, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2011. She was born in Newport on February 4, 1939, to the late John Joseph Parsonage and Adele Oakley Parsonage.She was predeceased by her loving husband Robert John Harmon of fifty one years, her daughter Deborah Marie Harmon, RN, and her brother, John Joseph Parsonage of Middletown. She leaves her brother Paul Parsonage of Middletown and South Carolina, and her sisters, Ellen A. Wright and her husband Graham of Naples, FL, and Marilyn E. Edenbach and her husband William of Newport, RI. She leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews whom she was very fond.Nancy was employed by the Newport School Department for thirty years as a secretary, retiring in 1993. She continued to work part time as a retiree for the school department for several years. She was a very active member of her union, Council 94, Local 841, holding many offices. Nancy was highly respected by students, teachers, and administrators and gave her all to her job. Nancy loved traveling, gardening and reading.Calling hours are omitted and burial will be private in St. Columbas Cemetery. A Memorial Mass will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 10:30AM in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Services of Newport Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road Portsmouth, RI 02871 or to the Robert Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
