Newport, RI - Nancy E. McGinn OBrien, 82, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, October 26, 2011.She was the wife of the late James S. OBrien, Newport City Solicitor for twenty years. They had been married for 52 years. Born in Newport, RI, on July 19, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Harold W. and Elizabeth Spicer McGinn. Nancy was a graduate of Rogers High School and Roger Williams School of Nursing. She was an RN at Newport Hospital for many years. Nancy was a member of the Hazard Beach Association and the Newport Athletic Club Water Babes. She was a communicant of St. Josephs Church. She leaves her six children: Kathleen Kruse and Bernie of Columbus, OH, James S. OBrien and Kip of Westport, CT, Sean OBrien and Cheryl of Newport, Terence OBrien and Jennifer of Cape Elizabeth, ME, Donal OBrien and Jennifer of Branford, CT and Elizabeth OBrien and Nick Cooper of Newport, RI, her eight grandchildren, Kelty, Connor, Jake, Jack, Patrick, Declan, Riley, and Colleen, her sister-in-law Kay OBrien of Newport, her beloved niece, Ann Green and her husband Bob, her nephews Jack McGinn and his wife Barbara, and Bill McGinn and his wife Whitney, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.She was the mother of the late Colleen E. OBrien. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at 10:00AM in St. Josephs Church, Broadway, Newport.Burial will follow at St. Columba Cemetery, Browns Lane, Middletown.In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Robert Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
