Natalie Helen Virgadamo of Portsmouth, RI died on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Newport Hospital after a short illness. She had recently celebrated her 99th birthday with her family.She was the wife of the late Salvatore L. Virgadamo, a Newport attorney, and happily married for 45 years. She was the daughter of the late Antonio G. Ferretti and Helen (Vernengo) Ferretti of Newport, RI.Natalie was born in Newport, RI on January 17, 1915. She grew up in Newport assisting with her father's fruit market in the 1930s and 1940s and was a resident of Newport and Portsmouth her entire life. She was a graduate of Rogers High School (1933) and a graduate of Katherine Gibbs Business College.Natalie was well travelled and loved adventuring to many far off places throughout the world. She also enjoyed her home, garden, and the many beautiful flowers she nurtured. As such, she was an active member and Past President of the Seaside Garden Club. She also served as the Grand Regent for the Catholic Daughters and mentored many young women through their junior program. Mrs. Virgadamo was an active volunteer at the Newport Hospital and was a past officer and Board member of the Auxiliary. She co-managed the Hospital Gift Shop for 12 years and was appointed a member of the Board of Governors. In 2002, Natalie was honored as Auxilian of the Year and a Patron Member.She is survived by her son, Philip Virgadamo and his wife Joan of Portsmouth, RI, her granddaughters, Gail Virgadamo-Mooney of Manchester, NH and Lisa Virgadamo of Newport, RI, her sister, Edythe Cousin and her husband Jacques of Newport, RI, and her nephews, Stephen Cousin of Newport, RI and Peter Cousin of Detroit, MI.A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 10 am in St. Mary's Church, corner of Spring Street and Memorial Blvd, Newport, with burial at St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown, RI. Calling hours will be 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Memorial Funeral Home at 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.
