Natalie Neill Nicholson, 104, of Middletown Rhode Island died December 1, 2014 at the Forest Farm Healthcare Center. Natalie was the daughter of John Nicholson and Louisa Bancroft (Barker) Nicholson. A graduate of Simmons College in 1932, Natalie had a long and prestigious career in Library Science. She began her career at the Boston Public Library in the Kirstein Business Library and then to Harvard University at the Graduate Engineering Library. Natalie worked at MIT from 1954 to 1975. She served as the first woman Director of Libraries for MIT until her retirement in 1975.Upon her retirement, she returned to her family home in Middletown. Natalie was a member of the Newport Historical Society and the Middletown Garden Society as well as a valued member and contributor to the Middletown Historical Society, a lifetime member of the Middletown Methodist Church as well as many other associations and organizations. Natalie was preceded in death by her sister Alice Barker (Nicholson) Coffey and her nephew John Nicholson Coffey. Natalie was the aunt of Kathleen (Coffey) Reilly and Norman Barker Coffey, both of Fort Myers, Florida. Neill Freeman Coffey (Diane) of Middletown, Rhode Island and Deborah Lou Rywelski (Theodore) of Charleston, South Carolina. She leaves many nieces and nephews. A service will be held on Friday, December 5th at 11am at Calvary United Methodist Church, 200 Turner Road, Middletown.
