Nick Spentzos

Newport, RI - Nick Spentzos, 87, of 6 Whitfield Place, Newport, RI, died Sunday, February 27, 2011, at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.He was the husband of Noula Kostopoulos Spentzos. Born in Nestani, Greece, on June 6, 1923, he was the son of the late Konstandinos and Panagiota Papaprokopiou Spentzos.Mr. Spentzos immigrated to the United States 52 years ago. He has lived in Newport for 25 years. He worked for U.S. Steel in Gary, IN for many years until his retirement. Mr. Spentzos deeply loved his family and worked tirelessly to sponsor 13 family members to come to the new country he loved. In addition to his wife of 50 years, he is survived by his son, Dino Spentzos and his wife Janet, his two grandsons, Nikolaos Spentzos and Ioannis Spentzos of Newport, RI, his sister Maria Tselepatiotis of Chicago, IL, his sister Athanasia Manios of Nestani, Greece. To his many nieces and nephews he will always be their beloved Theo Niko. He is preceded in death by his brother, Ioannis Spentzos.His funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at 11:00am in St. Spyridons Greek Orthodox Church, Thames Street, Newport. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.
