Nona Fredrique Garreau

Newport, RI - Nona Fredrique Follin Garreau, 89, of 70 Harrison Avenue Newport, formerly of 4 Boughton Road, Newport, died Monday, February 7, 2005 at Village House Nursing Home Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Armand Joseph Garreau. Born in Jamestown, RI on September 20, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Werner Emmanuel Follin and the late Annie Elizabeth Farrel Follin. Mrs. Garreau was a homemaker and helped run the former Garreau Co., Inc. of Newport from 1947-1974 with her husband. She also worked as a proof reader for McLaughlin Research Corp. of Middletown RI for 5 years. Mrs. Garreau received her 50 year pin as a Girl Scout Leader in the Newport Area. Nona was a member of the Girls Friendly Society of Rhode Island, serving as a board member, and she was a member of the Volunteers in Newport Education. Mrs Garreau was active at Emmanuel Church on their Altar Guild, a Choir Mother, the Vestry, the Sunday School and the Tuesday Sewing Group. Mrs. Garreau was on the PTA at Sheffield Elementry School serving as the the groups secretary and was also the secretary of the Rogers High School Alumni Association being a graduate of the Class of 1934. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Seaman?s Church Institute. She is survived by daughter Ann-Marie Fredrique Neal of Portsmouth, RI, daughter Nona Fredrique Gilmore of Newport, RI, grandson Alan Joseph Neal of Middletown, RI, granddaughter Verity-Ann Fredrique Neal, great granddaughter Ashley Marie Fredrique Neal, great granddaughter Jessica Ann-Marie Fredrique Neal, great great grandson Christopher Jermaine Walls Jr., nephew Geoffrey Follin and niece Winifred Follin both of San Francisco, CA, great nephew Niles Follin, great niece Maja Follin. The funeral will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2005, at 1:00 PM in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown. A Memorial Service will also be held on February 22, 2005 at 11:00AM in the Emmanuel Church Chapel. Donations in her memory may be made to the Village House Nursing Home Activities Fund, 70 Harrison Ave, Newport, RI 02840 or to the Tuesday Sewing Group of Emmanuel Church, 40 Dearborn Street, Newport, RI 02840.
