JAMESTOWN, RI ? Norma Whaley Smyth, of 17 Friendship Street, Jamestown, RI, formerly of Narragansett, RI, died Sunday, April 23, 2006 at home with her family. She was the wife of Frederick C.B. Smyth. Born in South Kingstown, RI, she was the daughter of the late H. Clifford and Elizabeth Doherty Whaley. Norma graduated from South Kingstown High School. She was formerly of Old Pt. Judith Road, Narragansett, RI. After graduation she went to work for the New England Telephone Company in Narrangansett and also for the Jamestown Office as an operator. She later worked as a telephone operator for the State of Rhode Island at the Ladd School, retiring from there. Norma was a former Cub Scout, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and belonged to the Conanicut Grange. She was a communicant of St. Matthew?s Episcopal Church in Jamestown. Besides her husband she is survived by her children Barbara A. Whitaker of Jamestown, RI, Frederick C.B. Smyth Jr. of Jamestown, RI, and Susan J. Smyth of Newport, RI, her granddaughters Melanie Whitaker, Kristin Gouveia, Megan Jones and Sarah Smyth, her great grandchildren Kelsey Gouveia, Rileigh Gouveia and Aidan Jones, and many nieces nephews. She was the sister of the late Lloyd L. Whaley, Clifford M. Whaley, Laura E. Church, Margaret I. Cahoone, Marion L. Kissick and Madeline J. Champlin.
