Norma Williams

Newport, RI - Norma J. Simone Williams, 72, of 9 Peckham Avenue Newport, died Monday, March 1, 2004 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.She was the wife of Sydney O. Williams of Newport, RI. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in June 2003. Born in Providence, RI on May 5, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Alice Goss Simone.Mrs. Williams received a Ed. B from R.I.C.E. in 1953 and a MA from Salve Regina University in 1977. She was a retired elementary teacher in the Newport School Department. She taught at Tonomy Hill, Potter, Cranston-Calvert, Carey, Sullivan and Coggeshall Schools. Mrs. Williams also taught in the Middletown School Department from 1955-1956. She retired in 1990. Besides her husband she is survived by three sons Stephen A. Williams of Middletown, RI, James M. Williams of Boone, NC, and Christopher T. Williams of New York, NY, her daughter Kathleen M. Crow of Portsmouth, RI, her grandson Matthew S. Williams of Middletown, RI, her sister Thelma J. Iannotti of Warwick, RI and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2004, at 11:00 AM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
