Portsmouth, RI - Norman J. Parr, of 10 Bristol Ferry Road, Portsmouth, RI, died Monday, June 2, 2008 in Newport Hospital. He was the husband of Hazel M. McConnell Parr. Born in Fall River, MA on June 17, 1916, he was the son of the late John H.and Alice Yates Parr.Mr. Parr worked as a machinist at the Newport Torpedo Station for 38 years, retiring in 1978. He was an Army Veteran of WWII. Mr. Parr volunteered as a Cub Scout Pack Master and was very active in the Portsmouth Little League and the Babe Ruth League, was a member of the Portsmouth Senior Center. Besides his wife he leaves his children James E. Parr of Richmond, RI, Robert M. Parr of West Warwick, RI, Donald T. Parr of Newport, RI, and Kathleen Grimm of Texas. He also leaves a sister Shirley Arcangel of Florida. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Portsmouth Rescue Wagon Fund, 2300 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871 or to the Portsmouth Senior Center, Bristol Ferry Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
