Norman William Hall

June 9, 1922 — December 30, 2012

Norman William Hall, 90, entered into eternal peace on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at home in Middletown, RI surrounded by his family.Norman was born on June 9, 1922, the son of the late William and Gertrude Hall in Providence, RI and brother of the late Eleanor Hall. He graduated from Hope High School in 1939. In June 1941, Norman began his thirty-seven year career with the U.S. Civil Service Commission at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, RI. His Civil Service Commission was interrupted by WWII. Norman was stationed in England with the U.S. Army Eighth Air Force, 326th Signal Company Wing. On September 4, 1946 he married his beloved wife, Gillian Conyers Lowe in Tinwell, Lincolnshire, England.Norman dedicated his life to his family and volunteering his time with many community organizations. While his family was growing up, Norman served as President of Linden-Anchorage PTA; Charter Member and former President - Sachuest Council of Parents and Teachers, Sachuest Scholarship Fund and a Life Member - National Parent-Teacher Association. He was also a Charter Member and former Institutional Representative - Middletown Cub Scout Pack 11 and Team Manager and Secretary - Middletown Little League Farm System. In later years he served as Chairman, Norman Bird Sanctuary Advisory Committee, Secretary Middletown Conservation Committee, Secretary Middletown Open Space Committee, Trustee - Middletown Library, Chairman - Middletown Library Building Committee and 1989 Trustee of the Year - R.I. Library Association. Norman was also past President, Director and Life Member of the Middletown Historical Society. Norman is survived by his wife of sixty-six years - Gillian; daughter Gayle (John) Amos of Sylvania, OH; sons Richard (Lina) Hall of Middletown, RI; Michael (Dominique) Hall of Townsville, Queensland, Australia; Jeffrey (Catherine) Hall of North Smithfield, RI; eight grandchildren - Todd, Robyn, Michelle, Erin, Bridget, Robin, Stephen, Peter and two great-grandchildren - Anastasia and Kyle.A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 12:00 noon at St. Mary's Episcopal Church - 324 E.
