Norris L. Mccomb

Newport, RI - Norris L. McComb, 91, of 269 Gibbs Avenue, Newport, RI, a retired Navy Commander and insurance lawyer, died Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Ruth Ann Sally Dooley McComb. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late George Andrew and Bertha Armstrong Norris McComb.He retired in 1983 from the Factory Mutual System, currently FM Global, having been Counsel of the FM Service Bureau and Associate General Counsel of the Factory Mutual System. He was a World War II and Korean War Veteran. He served in the South West Pacific and Philippines as Commanding Officer of a PT boat. Following the conclusion of World War II, on assignment to the Office of the Judge Advocate General of the Navy, he was the Staff Legal Officer to the Commander Naval Base Newport from 1950 to 1953. Several staff legal positions followed, including a long tour of duty and Assistant to the First Naval District Legal Officer in Boston. He ended his career as Staff Legal Officer, Commander Fleet Air Quonset in 1963. Mr. McComb was a 1939 Yale University graduate and he received a University of Virginia School of Law Juris Doctorate Degree in 1942. He was admitted to the bar of Virginia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, the US Court of Military Appeals and the US Supreme Court.He was a former member of the Federation of Insurance Counsel. Locally, he was a former member of the Retired Officers Association, the Newport Art Museum, the Newport Taxpayers Association and the Redwood Library. He is survived by his daughter, Tracey Ann Moore and grandchildren, Kristiana, Chandler and Felicity Moore, all of Middletown, RI. Funeral and burial will be private.
