Olive Ruth Etheline Smith

Middletown, - Olive Ruth Etheline Hamilton Smith, 88, of 333 Green End Avenue Middletown, RI, formerly of 6 Madeline Drive, Newport, RI, died Sunday, July 20, 2003 at Grand Islander Health Care Center Middletown, RI.She was the wife of the late Leonard Dwain Smith. Born in Calcutta, OH on August 24, 1914, she was the daughter of the late William and Jessie Wilson Hamilton.Mrs. Smith was a member of the Newport Senior Citizens and the Edward King House. She volunteered at the Norman Bird Sancturary. Mrs. Smith traveled with her daughter and son in-law the late Cdr. James Hinds, USN while he was in the Navy. She was an avid babysister for many friends and family, and she enjoyed doing counted cross stitch for her family and friends as well as knitting for the Robert Potter Leauge. She is survived by her son William Hamilton Smith of Ashville, NC, her daughter Virginia Hinds of Newport, RI, her sister Letha Huston of East Palestine, OH, and three grandchildren.She was the sister of the late Earl Hamilton and the grandmother of the late Timothy Hinds who passed away in 1990.Her funeral will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2003, at 11:00AM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
