NEWPORT, RI - Patricia Ann DeMatteis Quinn of 22 Homer Street in Newport, R.I., passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2006, surrounded by her loving family. Loving wife of Martin Quinn of Newport, R.I., and beloved mother of sons Martin Quinn of Portsmouth, R.I., and Joseph Quinn of Fort Collins, CO, and daughter Sara Quinn of Newport, R.I., loving sister of JoAnn Grosso of Hicksville, N.Y., and grandmother of Logan Quinn of Portsmouth, R.I., Patricia was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on March 4, 1948, to parents Joseph DeMatteis and Sarah Deegan DeMatteis.Patricia was recently a second grade teacher at Kennedy School in the Middletown School District. She grew up in Hicksville, Long Island, N.Y., and began her teaching career in New York before relocating to Warwick, R.I. . After a short time in Warwick, her family moved to Newport where she and Martin raised their children. Patricia was well known in the local Newport restaurant community for her hospitality and dedication to customers. Patricia was very active in the Newport and Middletown school communities, actively serving on boards, committies and the PTO. She recently became a member of the Juevenile Hearing Board, again looking for a way to make an impact on the children of her community, in addition to being appointed by the Newport City Council to the Beach Commission where she served as Chairperson of the Commission. She also served on many local political campaigns and on the Newport Public Library Fundraiser Committee.Over the years, she was highly active with St. Joseph?s Church, serving the Religious Education program as teacher for First Holy Communion classes, in additon to serving the parish as a Lecturer, Eucharist Minister, Children?s Liturgy and an active member of the Parish Council. Her funeral will be held Thursday, January 26 at 10:00am with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Josephs Church, located on Broadway and Mann Avenue in Newport. Burial will be held at St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 25, from 4-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the John F. Kennedy Elementary School, c/o Middletown Public School, Administration Building, 26 Oliphant Lane, Middletown, RI 02842, in loving memory of Patricia Quinn.
