Patricia King Davis of 9 Sherwood Road, Middletown died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at home. She was the wife of Herbert E. Davis. They were married for thirty years. Born in Fall River, MA on May 27, 1937 she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Adelene Flynn King of Bristol, RI.She was a Graduate of St. Marys Bayview Academy, 1955, and Salve Regina College, 1959. She was Chief Dietitian, 1959-1969, at Newport Hospital and taught at the Newport Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at The James L. Maher Center for thirty years as a special education teacher, teaching the severely and profoundly handicapped. She was directly descended from six passengers of the Mayflower, the ship that carried the Pilgrims to Cape Cod in 1620.In November 2000, she was one of the three main coordinators of a historic Thanksgiving Renewal, which took place between Rhode Island Mayflower Descendants and members of the Pokenoket Tribe of Bristol, RI. This was the first time in 379 years since ancestors from both groups sat down in 1621 and shared in the First Thanksgiving.She was active in the Mayflower Society as a current national officer of the Executive Committee of the General Society of Mayflower Descendents, Past Governor of the Rhode Island Society of Mayflower Descendants and Past President of the Council of Governors of Mayflower Descendants.She was past Chapter Reagent of the DAR Major William Taggert Chapter of Middletown and past DAR State Recording Secretary. A member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of Rhode Island, the American-French Genealogy Society, the NE Historical and Genealogical Society, the Rhode Island Historical Society, the Newport Preservation Society and the Newport Art Museum.Besides her husband she leaves a son Stephen King Chapman of Portsmouth, two stepdaughters, Chris Serpa of Jupiter, FL and Debra Clemmons of Newport. Two Sisters, Beverly Bouffard of Bristol, RI and Margaret King Cissel of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, five grandchildren, two nephews and one niece.Her funeral will be held Wednesday, July 31, at 8:00 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.Memorial donations may be made to either Visiting Nurse Services Of Newport Bristol Cos, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871 or to the James L.
