She was the wife of Roland A. Lopes. Born in Newport, RI on January 19, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. Sardinha and Mary C. Mello Sardinha Baker of Newport, Rhode Island. Mr. and Mrs. Lopes had beem married for 30 years. Mrs. Lopes was a self employed hairdresser for over 30 years. Mrs Lopes graduated from St. Catherine Academy in 1954. She also graduated from Newport School of Hairdressing. She loved gardening in her yard and knitting for her family and her grandchildren. She was known to play boards games for hours. Mrs. Lopes lived on Evarts Street until 1997 when she moved to Florida returning to Rhode Island in 2003. She is survived by her husband Roland A. Lopes of Portsmouth, RI, her son Stephen E. Biastre of Middletown, RI, and four daughter?s Denise A. Vieira of Newport, RI, Lee E. Fitzgerald of Portsmouth, RI, Jane T. Lauth of Tiverton, RI, Deborah J. Barton of Newport, RI, and one brother Richard Sardinha of Portsmouth, RI, and her sister Mary G. Heald of Newport, RI, and 6 Grandchildren.Her funeral will be held Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at 9:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport followed with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
