Paul Amory De Silva

Portsmouth, RI - Paul Amory de Silva, 47, of 234 Point Road, Portsmouth, died Saturday, July 10, 2010 at home. Born in Hong Kong on January 8, 1963, he was the son of Marilyn Spurr de Silva of Portsmouth, and the late Peer de Silva.Paul grew up the son of two career diplomats and lived in many interesting places around the globe such as Vietnam, Thailand and Australia. When his father retired, they moved to Florida and Paul found his love of the ocean and of fishing, a passion he maintained from then on. For much of his adult life, he lived and worked in the Washington, DC area in the computer and transportation industries. Nearly eight years ago, Paul moved to Rhode Island to care for his mother and the two enjoyed volunteering at the Potter League and catching breakfast at IHOP. He had a great sense of humor, but was also a serious thinker. He was prepared for a good conversation with an equal grasp of history as well as current events. Recently he began to share his thoughts on local policies, attending local council meetings and submitting opinion pieces for the local paper. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister Cathy de Silva Farricker of Cos Cob, CT, her husband Frank Farricker, their children Christian and Alexandra, a brother Peer de Silva Jr. of Sterling, VA, and his children Sarah and David. His funeral will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2010, at 11:00am in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be private.
