Paul E. Levasseur Sr

Paul E. LeVasseur, Sr., 74, of West Main Road, Middletown, RI, died on Friday, January 9, 2015 at Charlton Hospital in Fall River, MA, surrounded by his loving family.He was the husband of Marjorie (Peckham) LeVasseur.Born in Providence, RI on May 31, 1940, he was the son of the late Arthur G. and Eileen (McGuire) LeVasseur.Mr. LeVasseur served in the United States Marine Corps for over 22 years, retiring as a Gunnery Sergeant. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served two tours and had been stationed in Japan, North and South Carolina, and California. Following his military career, Mr. LeVasseur was Postmaster for the US Postal Service in Adamsville, RI and a Supervisor in Fall River, MA until retiring in 2001. He later worked at Toyota of Newport and Hyundai of Newport for several years and at the Recreation Center on the Newport Naval Base. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Wanumetonomy Golf and Country Club in Middletown, RI, and was a member of the Marine Corps League.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons, Paul E. LeVasseur, Jr. and his wife, Aida, and Matthew J. LeVasseur and his wife, Lori, all of Middletown, RI; his grandson, Evan Paul LeVasseur; and his two sisters, Marion LeVasseur of Middletown, RI and Adrienne LeVasseur of Barrington, RI.He was the brother of the late Arthur LeVasseur.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 4-7 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 10 am in Memorial Funeral Home.Burial with military honors will follow in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown, RI.
