Newport, RI - Paul Harry Mercer, Sr., 74, of 195 Admiral Kalbfus Road, Newport, died Thursday, November 4, 2004 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.He was the husband of Margaret Pincince Mercer. Born in Piedmont, WV on April 1, 1930, he was the son of the late Ewell Lee and Mary Blanche Shank Mercer. Mr. Mercer served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War for 30 years, retiring in 1978 as a 1st Class Chief Petty Officer. He worked as a maintenance man at Rolling Green Village in Newport for 11 years and at the former Sheraton Islander for 7 years. Mr. Mercer was a communicant of St. Josephs Church. Besides his wife he is survived by his son Paul Harry Mercer Jr. of Newport, RI, his daughter Theresa Tertinek of Newport, RI, his brother Charles Mercer of Lenoir City, TN, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.Funeral services and burial are private.Donations in his memory may be made to St. Joseph?s Church Building Fund, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport, RI 02840.Arrangements are by the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadwawy, Newport.
