- Paul Laurence Carey, III, ?Paulie?, 6 years old, of 86 Norseman Drive Portsmouth, died Monday, June 24, 2002 at his grandparents house in Portsmouth, RI after an accident. Born in Newport, RI on March 9, 1996, he was the son of Paul L. Carey, Jr and Susan Brown Carey of Portsmouth. Paulie finished kindergarten at the Hathaway School in Portsmouth, RI. He was just starting his soccer season with the Phil?s Propane team in Portsmouth, his jersey was #3. While in school last year he received a Blastoff Reading program medal. Paulie loved spending time with his sisters, riding his two wheel bike around the neighborhood, and playing with Transformers. He is survived by his mother and father Susan Brown Carey and Paul L. Carey Jr. of Portsmouth, RI, his maternal grandparents Roger Brown and Dorothy Brown of Portsmouth, RI, paternal grandparents Paul L. Carey Sr. and Margo Carey of Marblehead, MA, three sisters Shana Brady of Portsmouth, RI, Tessa and Vada Carey of Portsmouth, RI, three uncles Roger Brown Jr. of Middletown, RI, Robert Brown and Wayne Brown both of Portsmouth, RI, and three cousins Roger Brown III, Matthew Brown, and Timothy Brown all of Portsmouth, RI, and three nephews Christian, Joshua and Zachary Brady, all of Portsmouth. His funeral will be held on Saturday, June 29, at 9:00am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00am in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
