Paul Olivier Jacques Pages, 55, of 925 Wapping Road, Portsmouth, RI, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, December 8, at Rhode Island Hospital.Paul was born August 10, 1953, in Rabat, Morocco, to the late Jacques P. and Madeleine Olivier Pages, during a dust storm that sanded away any potential meanness or unkindness.A 1973 graduate of Portsmouth High School, Paul worked for many years in the Newport restaurant business, at the Clarke Cookhouse, Salass, and the Rhode Island Quahog company. A dedicated friend to children, he was also a teachers aide in the local school system. At the time of his death, he worked in the deli/seafood and produce departments at Shaws Supermarket in Middletown, where he made Employee of the Month and enjoyed interacting with customers and coworkers. He also took care of his father, the late Jacques Pages, until his death in 2005.He is survived by his sisters Catherine Pages of Seattle, WA and Andree Pages of Coloane, Macau; his brothers Jean Pierre Pages of Needham, MA, Pierre Pages of Warsaw, Poland, Charles Pages of Rockland, MA and Jacques Pages, Jr. of Middletown; by his sister-in-law Adelia Pages of Newport, whose children Pierre and Suzanne Pages he helped raise after the death of his beloved brother Michel in 1998; by Tante Marguerite Vaillancourt of Portsmouth, who helped raise Paul; many loving Vaillancourt and Olivier cousins; many nieces and nephews; and a grandniece.His funeral will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2008, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway, Newport.Burial will take place in Portsmouth Cemetery, Turnpike Avenue, Portsmouth, RI.Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 12, 2008, from 3-7 in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Lucys Hearth, 913 West Main Road, Middletown, RI 02842 or a wrapped holiday gift with intended age and gender may be brought.The family wishes to thank Rhode Island Hospital and Vanderbilt Rehab in Newport for their outstanding and loving care, and all Pauls friends and Shaws coworkers for their prayers and support.
