Paula S. Thomas, 98, of Middletown, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2016 at Grand Islander Health Care Center in Middletown. Paula was born November 27, 1917 in Hoboken, NJ. She is the daughter of the late William and Mary (Larsen) Sorensen. She grew up in New York City and began a career as a dancer. In the mid 1930s she became one of the famed Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. Paula married William Prosser as a young woman and began to raise her family in New Jersey. She was soon widowed, with two sons. She later married George D. Thomas of Tenafly NJ. where they raised their 4 children and were happily married for 44 years until his death in 2002. After George's death, Paula moved to Blenheim-Newport in Middletown to be close to family. She became a member of the Portsmouth United Methodist Church.Paula's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife and mother. Family was always her top priority. Family and friends benefitted from her love of cooking and the fact that she was a warm and gracious hostess. She actively supported her community by volunteering in many organizations while living in NJ. Paula combined her community service with her love of animals by training many of her dogs to work with the disabled and elderly. Paula is survived by her children: Son, Donald and his wife Patricia Prosser of Belle Meade, NJ; Son, Jay and his wife Bonnie Prosser of Lake Orion, MI; daughter, Jeanne and her husband Richard Hugg of St. Augustine, FL; and daughter, Bryn and her husband Garfield Weymouth of Portsmouth, RI. She also leaves 8 grandchildren, James J. Prosser, G. Douglas Prosser, Sean C. Prosser, Eric T. Hugg, Jordan R. Hugg, Rachel M. Hugg, Thomas G. Weymouth, and Paul D. Weymouth, and 12 great grandchildren.A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., in the Portsmouth United Methodist Church, 2732 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
