Beverly Hills, Florida - Peter B. Handibode, of 6202 N Misty Oak Terrace, died Friday, November 11, 2011 at Shands Health Care in Gainesville, FL. Born in The Bronx, NY on September 4, 1940 he was the son of the late Edward and Edna Hunt Handibode. Peter was a retired Master Chief veteran of the US Navy, serving for 27 years. During his career he was the EMeister on board the FGS Lutjens, serving in the Personnel Exchange Program PEP, Keil, Germany. While serving in Keil he was awarded the Honor Cross of the German Federal Armed Forces in Bronze. After retirement from active duty, he began his civilian career with Marine Safety International MSI and was currently employed by McLaughlin Research Corp, as an instructor. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, and Fleet Reserve. Also a Past Exalted Ruler PER of the Elks Lodge 104. Peter enjoyed golf and travel. He lived life to enjoy life. He is survived by his wife Christine Faria Handibode of Portsmouth, and his children Denise Pryde of West Columbia, SC, Peter Handibode Jr. of Weymouth, MA, Jeffrey Handibode of Plymouth, MA, and David Mello of Riverside, RI. He also leaves his brothers Edward and wife Teresa Handibode, Francis and wife Marianne Handibode, and sisters Mary Jane Sinnott, Patricia Lamanna and husband Robert, and Edna Charrette and husband Edward. He predeceased by siblings Richard Handibode, John Handibode, Joseph Handibode, and Ann Polchinski. Peter is also survived by nine grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 15 from 4:00-8:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.His funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 16 at 9:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
