Peter C. Petropoulos

Peter C. Petropoulos of 321 Broadway Newport died Thursday, May 22, 2008 in the Newport Hospital. He was the husband of Athena Spiratos Petropoulos.Born in Lowell, MA on September 1, 1917, he was the son of the late Christy and Vasio Loures Petropoulos.Peter was a graduate of Rogers High School and went on to graduate from Brown University. After serving in the Army during WWII, he owned and operated Harolds Camera Shop in Newport.He was a member of the Newport Lions Club, the Newport Historical Society and the Newport Recreation Commission. He served on the board of directors for the Mary Street YMCA. Peter was a life long member of St. Spyridons Church and served on the church council for twenty five years, seventeen of them as treasurer. He was also a member of AHEPA.Besides his wife he leaves a brother George C. Petropoulos of Middletown, three nieces Valarie St. Peter of Portsmouth, Krista Petropoulos of Newport and Cynthia DeAngelo of North Reading, MA, a nephew Christy G. Petropoulos of Newport as well as one great niece and three great nephews.His funeral will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 10am from the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway Newport with a Funeral Service at 11am in St. Spyridons Greek Orthodox Church 390 Thames Street Newport.Burial will be in Island Cemetery.Calling hours will be held Monday, May 26, 2008 from 4-8pm.Donations in his memory may be made to St. Spyridons Church 390 Thames Street Newport, RI 02840.
