Peter James O'Neill

Peter J. ONeill, 60, of 102 Van Zandt Ave Newport, died Friday, June 25, 2004 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI. He was the husband of Margaret ?Margie? E. Craft ONeill. Born in Newport, RI on February 10, 1944, he was the son of Mary Murdoch ONeill of Newport, RI and the late Reginald P. ONeill. Peter ONeill was a graduate of Rogers High School and retired from New England Telephone in 1991. He most recently was working for TJ Brown Landscaping. Mr. ONeill served in the US Army and later continued with the Army National Guard from 1962-1968. He was active in the community, serving as past officer of the Newport Elks and on the Board of Directors for Ballard Park. He was a member of the FOP Aux., Masonic Lodge-St. Johns #1, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Rugby Club, a Graduate of Rogers High School Class of 1961, and the Rogers High School Alumni Association. He is survived by his wife of 34 years Margaret E. ONeill of Newport, RI, his mother Mary Murdoch ONeill of Newport, RI, a daughter Melissa A. ONeill of Middletown, RI, a son Brian P. ONeill and a daughter in-law Salpi ONeill of North Smithfield, RI, a brother David ONeill of Bradenton, FL, and several nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held on Friday July 2, 2004, at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00 AM in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery Portsmouth, RI, Donations may be made to the St. Marys Church Building Fund 11 William Street Newport, RI 02840 or the Hibernian Hall Building Fund 2 Wellington Ave Newport, RI 02840.
