Peter K. Lazar

Wellington, FL - Peter K. Lazar, of Oakberry Circle, Wellington, FL, died on Thursday, October 30, 2008. He was the husband of the late Helen Peters Lazar. Born in Albania on January 21, 1910, he migrated to this country in 1927 and had briefly lived in Boston, MA and Westbrook, ME before settling on Aquidneck Island 70 years ago. He resided and raised his family on Eustis Avenue in Newport prior to establishing permanent residence in Florida though he maintained an apartment in Middletown until recently. Peter was a successful business man having owned and operated many different food service and other small businesses throughout his life and was the long time owner/operator of Lazars Liquor Store on West Main Road in Middletown. He will be remembered for his love of children, story and joke telling, generosity to friends and family, and his favored trips to Las Vegas. He is survived by his sons Robert S. Lazar of Middletown, RI; Philip R. Lazar of Del Mar, CA and Paul W. Lazar of Winchester, MA; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Elizabeth D. Olaynack who resided in Newport, RI. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2008, from 4-7pm, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Funeral services will be private.
