Pfc Dennis P. Fitzgerald

Portsmouth, RI - PFC Dennis Paul Fitzgerald, US Army, 24, of Portsmouth, died suddenly on Wednesday, June 12, 2013. Born in Newport, RI on December 18, 1988, he was the son of the Stephen J. Fitzgerald and Joan (Lynch) Fitzgerald of Portsmouth RI. Dennis had recently completed a tour of duty in South Korea and was home on leave spending time with friends and family. He graduated from the St. Philomena School and played many sports especially football, basketball and lacrosse at Portsmouth High School. Dennis was also an altar server at St. Anthony's during his youth. He had a charismatic personality, bigger than life. He had a great smile, a sharp sense of humor, and was loved by many friends and family members. Besides his parents, he is survived by his brother Richard R. Fitzgerald of Bristol, RI, and his brother Kevin M. Fitzgerald Portsmouth, RI, his grandparents, Joan ( Murphy) Lynch and Raymond J . Lynch (deceased) of Newport and Richard and Mary Louise Fitzgerald of Glastonbury, CT. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at 9:00a.m., from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at 10:00a.m., in the St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 17, 2013, from 4:00-7:00p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
