Philip M. Young, Sr., 85, of New Bedford, MA, formerly of Middletown, RI, transitioned into heaven peacefully in his sleep at the Care One Nursing Home in New Bedford, MA, on October 3, 2024, and is now present with his Lord and Savior and has received his glorified body.
He was the devoted husband of the late Frances M. (Morris) Young for 46 years.
Born in Fredericksburg, VA, he was the son of the late Maxwell O. and Marie A. (White) Young.
Philip enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1956 and was honorably discharged earning the rank of SR. An esteemed Navy veteran, he served with honor and distinction before pursuing a successful career as a self-employed Real Estate Broker who ran his own firm and Century 21.
Philip found immense joy in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Philip had a passion for traveling and was an avid sports enthusiast, cheering passionately for teams like the Washington Commanders, Dodgers, and Celtics. He cherished the holidays and embraced the spirit of celebration wholeheartedly.
Philip is survived by his loving son; Philip M. Young, Jr., and his wife Paula, of New Bedford, his grandchildren; Brandon (and his wife Nikita) of New Bedford, MA, Adam (and his wife Katie) of Somerset, MA, Jordan and Frankie Young, both of New Bedford, and his beloved great-grandchildren; Amare, Naliyah, Thea, and Juju, and his sisters; Reverend Diana Cherry of Maryland and Marion Cannon of Florence, Alabama. He is also survived by Chris and Kim Morris, Melissa Morris-Frank, Pastor John Cherry II, Sharon Mitchell, many other beloved nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Frances and his grandson Andrew, he is now together with his sisters and his brothers Arlene, Churchill, Sam, Frank, James, Maxwell Jr., Eleanor, Gladys, & Pricilla. They are all now reunited together in God's loving grace and presence.
Services will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, with visiting hours from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, immediately followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM in the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will continue in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 S. County Trail, Exeter, RI 02822.
