Philomena ?Fannie? Mello Dorato, 86, of 75 Garfield Street, Newport, died Thursday, January 29, 2004, at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center after a long illness. She was the beloved and devoted wife of the late John J. Dorato.Born in Portsmouth, RI, on Nov. 21, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Manuel Mello and Amelia Garcia Mello.Mrs. Dorato was a communicant of St. Joseph?s Church, Newport, was a member of St. Joseph?s Rosary and Altar Society, and was a long time volunteer for Catholic Charities and the Hemophiliac Society. She was a member and volunteer with the former St. Joseph?s School Mother?s Club.She worked for many years as a housekeeper for Mr. and Mrs. Roger Braman and Mr. and Mrs. Peter King.She loved gardening and walking. She especially enjoyed being with her friends at Blue Rocks Battery Park and at King Park, Newport.She was the loving mother of Dolores Ann Fisher of Middletown, Phyllis Mae Platt of Portsmouth, John ?Jack? Dorato Jr. of Newport, Patricia Ann Dorato of Pinole, CA, and B. Daniel Dorato of Middletown. She also leaves 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is the sister of Mary Clarke of Newport, Agnes Marques of Middletown, Dorothy Rego of Middletown, and Emily Lacerda of Portsmouth.She was the sister of the late Manuel and Anthony Mello.Funeral services will be Monday, February 2, at 9:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Joseph?s Church, Broadway at Mann Avenue, Newport.
