Phyllis C. Bishop Manchester, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the age of 92. A longtime resident of Portsmouth, RI, she most recently resided at Sakonnet Bay Manor, in Tiverton, RI. Before retiring, she was a teacher for 20 years at Rogers High School.Among her many interests, she enjoyed playing bridge. Phyllis was an active member of the Altar Guild at St. Marys Episcopal Church in Portsmouth. She was the wife of the late George T. Bishop and the later Francis B. Manchester.Born in Cole Brook, NH on Feb. 17, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Hazel Cass Clark.She loved Newport as well as the peace and opportunities Aquidneck Island provided her. She experienced much joy in life and extended kindness to the many people she met, most of all she cherished her family all of whom will miss her presence in their lives.She is survived by her son Garner C. Bishop and his wife Lauren of Portsmouth, RI, her daughter Lynne B. Noyes and her husband George of Ridgefield, CT, granddaughter Brie N. Ambrose of Santa Maria, CA. Many loving nieces and nephews also survive her. She is preceded in death by her brother Arthur G. Clark, Jr. and her sister Virginia C. Gordon.A celebration of the Holy Eucharist will be held on Thursday, November 19, 11:00 am in St. Marys Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
