JAMESTOWN, RI - Pickett Magruder Greig, 85, of 6200 Oregon Avenue NW, Washington, DC and 21 Bayview Drive, Jamestown, RI, died Tuesday, August 30, 2005, at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Betty Carter Fort Greig of Washington, D.C. and the late Martha Wylly Appleton Greig. Born in Newport, RI on October 23, 1919, he was the son of the late Capt. Stuart Osmond Greig, USN and Adele Magruder Greig. He was the grandson of the late Admiral Thomas Pickett Magruder. Mr. Greig attended St. Alban?s School in Washington, DC. He graduated from St. Georges School in Middletown, RI, the University of Virginia and the University of Virginia Law School. Mr. Greig practiced law in Newport. He worked for 20 years in the Commonwealth Land Title Office in Providence, RI, retiring in 1983. Throughout his life he was an active member of the Jamestown community. He was a member of the American Bar Association, the Rhode Island Bar Association, the Society of Colonial Wars, the Conanicut Yacht Club, the Chevy Chase Club in Chevy Chase, MD, and the Pilgrims of St. Marys in Maryland. He loved his home on the bay in Jamestown where he spent his summers. Besides his wife he is survived by his children David Ely Cain of Fayston, VT, Thomas P.M. Greig of Jamestown, RI, Nancy Cain Haynes of Sag Harbor, NY, Elizabeth A. Hyman of Saunderstown, RI, and Louisa Greig-Bisbing of Camas, WA, eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was the brother of the late Adele Richardson and the late Elizabeth Lund. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2005, at 10:00 AM in St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown.
