Middletown, - Priscilla B. Peckham, 95, of 124 Peckham Avenue, Middletown, died Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at Forest Farm Health Care Center Middletown, RI. Born in Middletown, RI on November 18, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Reuben Wallace and Adelaide Maria Greenman Peckham. Born at home in Middletown, she was a 1926 graduate of Rogers High School. She attended Antioch College and graduated from Weelock Kindergarten Training School. She later received a Masters Degree in Art Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, in New York City. Her teaching career started at the one-room Paradise School in Middletown, where she taught grades 1, 2, and 3. She later moved to Maine and taught at Aroostook and Farmington State Normal Schools between 1931 and 1945. From 1946 to 1950 she was the Director of Art Education in the public schools of Portland Maine. During this time she also taught summer sessions in art at the University of Maine in Orino. She was Director of Art for the public schoos of Brookline, Massachusetts, from 1950 to9 1970, when she retired at Middletown. Soon after her retirement she took a trip around the world. She was a member of the Newport Art Association and the Garden Club of Middletown and a life member of the Middletown Historical Society. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Middletown. She is survived by two nieces Mary A. Day of Middletown, RI, and Katharine Ambrose of Knoxville, TN. A Memorial serivce will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2003, at 2:00 PM in Calvary United Methodist Church, Turner And Wyatt Roads, Middletown. Burial will be private.Arrangements are by the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
