Newport, RI - Purnell Napoleon Williams, 81, of Heatherwood Health Care Center, Newport, RI, formerly of Baltimore, MD, 66 Friendship Street, Newport and 27 Dewolf Avenue, Bristol, died Friday, January 26, 2007 at the center. Born in Baltimore, MD on June 28, 1925, he was the son of the late Floyd and Eleanor Jefferson Williams.Mr. Williams served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a musician for several churches and restaurants in Baltimore for 60 years. Mr. Williams was a member of Community Baptist Church, and a member of the American Federation of Musicians. He is survived by his son Purnell Nathaniel Williams of Las Vegas, NV, his grandchildren Brandon Burgess of Las Vegas, NV and Nathaniel Dominique Williams of San Jose, CA, his niece Dr. Janice Ivy and her husband Dr. Vincent Thompson of Providence, RI, his nephew Cecil Maurice Barnes of Frederick, MD, his great niece Ivy Hillard, and his great nephew Al Hillard both of Providence, RI. He was the brother of the late Willie McCoy Williams. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at 11:00 am in Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard, Newport. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday morning from 10-11am in the Community Baptist Church.
