Middletown, RI - Rachel L. Martin Alves, 78, of Middletown, RI, died Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. She was the wife of Walter J. Alves, Sr. Born in Manville, RI on September 29, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Rose Lozeau Martin.Mrs. Alves was a communicant of St. Marys Church. Besides her husband of 57 years, she is survived by her children, Walter J. Alves, Jr. of Hudson, MA, David P. Alves of Barrington, RI and Diane M. Collum of Middletown, RI, her grandchildren Rocky Collum, Sarah Alves, Shaun Collum, Rachael Alves, Melissa Collum, Ashley Gouveia and Ariel Gouveia plus several nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2008, at 8:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 8, 2008, from 4-7pm in the funeral home.
