Rachel Ann Davis

Rachel Ann (Phifer) Davis, 102, of Middletown died Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Newport Hospital of Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Howard C. Davis.Born on September 30, 1912 in Van Hiseville, NJ, she was the daughter of the late John Lloyd and Mary Jane (Moore) Phifer. Mrs. Davis was a graduate of Lakewood High School and Rider College in Trenton, NJ. She worked seasonally for 5 to 6 years in the office for Ocean Spray in the accounting department.Mrs. Davis and her husband owned and operated a retail florist for 35 years, which eventually transitioned into a wholesale operation growing geraniums, standard mums and various bedding plants. She was the President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Lakewood, NJ and a member of the Church in Brielle, Brielle, NJ. Mrs. Davis loved reading, needlework and especially tatting.She is survived by her daughter Doris Jane Miller of Middletown, RI.She was the sister of the late George Hendricks Phifer.A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at 12pm, in Woodlawn Cemetery, 1400 Clifton Avenue, Lakewood, NJ. Family and friends are invited to attend.
