Ralph J. Nichols

Ralph J. Nichols, 78, of Dudley Avenue, Newport, RI, died on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Charlton Hospital in Fall River, MA.He was the husband of 49 years to Elizabeth F. (Wetherell) Nichols.Born in Newport, RI on May 27, 1936, he was the son of the late Richard and Helene (Habbercorn) Nichols.Mr. Nichols was a US Marine Corp veteran of the Korean War. He worked as a manager at the former J.T. O'Connell Building Supply Co. for 45 years and McGee's Bar for 10 years before retiring. Ralph enjoyed gardening and fishing, and was an avid New York Yankee fan.In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, two daughters and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by three sisters and three brothers.Funeral services with military honors will be private.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 1 State Street, Suite 200.
